EVENT
The 7th Annual International Consular Ball will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2008 at 7:00 P.M. at The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum. State government and the business community will come together to honor consuls and their countries, highlight the impact of international trade on the economy, and reaffirm the status of Texas as a center of international business and commerce.
The spectacular venue of polished granite at The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum will be the backdrop to a superb event with consuls from around the world, high-ranking state officials, dignitaries, special guests, and business leaders from all over Texas. Entertainment, an exclusive VIP cocktail reception, dinner with speakers, dancing to end the evening, and much more will all ensure a truly memorable event in which to showcase your corporation to clients, partners, valuable business prospects, and the international community.
International Hospitality Council of Austin
The International Consular Ball is produced by the International Hospitality Council of Austin (IHCA). Inspiration combined with promotion of Citizen/Corporate Diplomacy are seen as the primary drivers of the IHCA. IHCA is:
- Austin's oldest international nonprofit, currently in its 48th year.
- Support for international students living in Austin and to local students traveling abroad.
- A point of presence for dignitaries, and other international visitors.
- U.S. State Department's contact agency for international visitors.
- Member of the NCIV (National Council of International Visitors).
- A 501 (c) (3) Non-Profit Corporation.
CONSULAR CORPS
The International Consular Ball recognizes the achievements of the Consular Corps. The event is an evening to show appreciation to the dignitaries who represent their countries through trade and good will in this state. The ranks include: Dean of the Consular Corps, Consuls General, Consuls, and Honorary Consuls. Join us to applaud their diligent work with the international business community and achievements in exchanging commerce, culture and diplomacy.
AUSTIN
The IHCA is also 'partnering' with the Mayor's office of the city of Austin to produce the gala event. Mayor Will Wynn is serving as honorary co chairman. In tune with Austin's slogan of being the "Live Music Capital of the World," Mayor Wynn has taken an active role in making sure this is a productive and fun event. In addition, Austin is the right place to conduct a gala event of this stature. As the capital, it serves as the seat of government for the state. Therefore, it is the natural place for the state to "do business." Being geographically central, "Austin is accessible from every corner of the state."
ATTENDEES
Because seating is limited, the focus is to have an audience of "Who's Who" in the Texas region. The audience will consist of approximately 350 persons (including the consuls) who are business, academic, and government leaders that affect state, regional, and international economic development.
VENUE AND PROGRAM
The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum is an elegant monument to "The Story of Texas." A trademark 35-foot-tall bronze Lone Star sculpture greets visitors in front of the Museum. Located in the center of downtown, it is convenient to the capitol and the consuls' hotel, the Stephen F. Austin. The VIP reception takes place in the upstairs area with wine and appetizers for the guests. After the reception, the procession of consuls descends the grand staircase through the rotunda into the dining area. Eminent speakers, delectable food, awards, and distinguished guests make for a five-star evening.
